(This toe-curlingly BRILLIANT piece of creative writing by Ronald Dyers is nothing short of a MUST READ! - Ed)
My mense staan voor baie deure wat gesluit is,
Sommige het hulle vir hulself gesluit,
Sommige is deur andere vir hulle gesluit;
Omdat ek n Kullid is!
I was here before oom Van Riebeeck came,
I was here roaming all these plains.
I was here when uncle Shaka came,
In this land, long before everyone came, I was the flame!
I am a Coloured!

(This INCREDIBLY interesting article by Mario Olckers (aka Oblonski on Bruin-ou.com) holds no punches in painting a clear picture of the dire state of social media in South Africa. Definitely a worthwhile read! - Ed)
I came across a very insightful post over at Experience: The Blog
where the author uses Maslows hierarchy of needs to tease out some of
the reasons for online behaviour, in this case why people join online
communities. It is a very good analysis of the motivations behind
peoples behaviour and set me thinking about the online social media
scene in South Africa and why companies who engage in online social
media campaigns may be jumping the gun a bit.

Redd's premium cider would like to know from you, the proud members of Bruin-ou.com, why you're not feeling their brand. So, they've compiled this quick survey for you to complete and let them know what's what. The research is of critical importance in dissecting and understanding the alcoholic beverage purchasing habits of the Coloured community and I strongly encourage as many of you as possible to PLEASE help us out by completing the quick survey.
THANK YOU for your assistance. |

THE shots rang out soon after 1pm on Saturday last week, and many of us ran out of the barracks - blocks of flats next to the Engen refinery - to find yet another teenage corpse: Zukz MacDonald. He joined Tersia Heslop, Roman van Schalkwyk and Sebastian Roskruge as some of this year's victims of Wentworth violence.
A growing epidemic of drug usage and gangs is causing the death of too many of our youngsters. Violence is raging out of control. Nightclubs seem to be the main site, and gangs the main source.

The People's Revolutionary Congres. A party intent on representing Coloured interests in the next elections!
Saturday, 6 September 2008 is a day I wont forget very easily. I was at the launch of the new political party, the PRC (The Peoples Revolutionary Congress) which took place at Noordgesig Community Center in Johannesburg. Led by the charismatic duo Benny Marais and Basil Douglas, the PRC breaths some fresh air into a political arena that reeks with the putrid stench of incompetence, failure and indifference. |

Thanks to Zapiro's infamous cartoon which so succinctly captures the gist of brazen disrespect for South African institutions, we modified his original cartoon to portray something equally sinister. We're talking about the continued exclusion of Coloured South Africans by the SABC media and the complicit, almost active role played by people who wish to keep our voices from being heard. What happened to equality? Why is the Coloured community being held down and held back from enjoying the rights of freedom of expression with the organs of state that breathe life into these rights? It's disgusting...really!!
Don't mind me though...I'm Coloured!! |
