The new Bok coach has been selected and there is much controversy around the selection. Peter De Villiers was promoted from the ranks of junior Bok coach to senior, following in his predecessor Jake White who took the same route. Many say that this is a political move but with more than half the selectors being White, many say this is impossible. We would love to hear your views on this appointment so please post your comments below. Personally, I think that this is a great move for South African rugby and we would like to wish Peter De Villiers all the best in his new position and we are behind him 100%. I think that not only is it a great move for transformation but for SA rugby overall because the appointment was on merit and he will prove this...another Bruin-ou taking SA by storm. Peter De Villiers is new SA coach By Gary Lemke Peter de Villiers was on Wednesday named as the new Springbok coach, replacing Jake White. De Villiers becomes the first black to coach South Africa, after enjoying considerable success at Under-19 and Under-21 level. |

Imagine youre in a London pub engaged in the usual conversational banter with your pub buddies. The topic turns to Africa and a suggestion is made to drive from London to Cape Town. Most people would dismiss this as sheer barstool bravado
nonsense
something that will be forgotten by morning once logic kicks in. Not so for longtime Bruin-ou.com member and friend, Arnold Leeuw. Arnold has decided to embark on the journey of a lifetime through Africa on an epic voyage of discovery. The map below shows the route he will be taking, with an alternative route just in case things get a bit too rough and dangerous. We interviewed Arnold who is currently driving through Morocco. Well be keeping track of his progress with pictures and an update report of the trip as he progresses.

What made you decide to drive from London to Johannesburg?
Actually the journey is London to Cape Town. However after Cape Town we will be driving the garden route to Durban, original home town, and then on to Johannesburg where I intend starting out life back in SA. To be honest the idea was hatched in a pub with a Kiwi mate / ex-colleague.

*More on the shower story by Niemah Davids*
A Cape Town family has told of their shock and humiliation after they were dragged out of the showers at a camping resort, in an alleged racist incident.
A group of about 20 white people jeered at the family and pushed them around, leaving them severely traumatised.
Speaking from her home in Grassy Park, Fairoez Adams told of how, she, her husband Faizal, 11-year-old son Yusuf, nine-year-old daughter Imaan and 17-year-old niece Taufeeqah were pulled out of their shower cubicles at Oostewal Caravan Park last Thursday and were instructed to leave immediately, because "you don't belong here".
Adams explained that her family trades in fruit and vegetables and during the festive season they traditionally have a fruit and vegetable stand in Langebaan.
"We usually stay over at friends because getting a booking is always an issue," she said. |

One of the current most underrated players in my book is Stanton “Stiga” Fredericks. Stiga was a member of the Ama-glug glug team (South Africa under 23) that recorded an emphatic 3-1 victory at the Olympics over a Brazil team that included the great Ronaldinho. Stiga had many great years of Chiefs before moving to Moscow where he excelled initially before falling out of favour with the new coach. He was given a raw deal after moving back to SA, having many doors shut in his face…no way to treat a player of his caliber in my book. |
