Daily Sun, daaglikse sonde!

He's a prolific writer of some of the most scintillating satire and short stories and he brings you a riveting, profound, dramatic short story that many of you will be able to relate to. ENJOY ;-) - Editor.

He shifted his shoulders so that the frayed cuff-edge of his old blue suit rode up above his battered wristwatch exposing its weathered face. The glass had so many scratches on it that it actually appeared cloudy. He had to squint to make out the hands. He had been sitting here for just over six hours.

With roots in Durban, Mishack Harrison’s journey began as an adolescent aspiring toward greatness by competing in his local neighbourhood R&B and Hip-Hop Group Dance Competitions. These stepping stones were the gateway to Mishack discovering his untapped vocal & song writing talents as well as the first glimpse at his natural dance and
choreography abilities. These critical elements were the start to Mishack becoming the professional artist that we know today as Sha-Q.

This gifted 28 year-old really started germinating into a Young, Inspiring Musician when both his parents died and he decided to relocate to Jozi.

(This article was published in the Rapport - We would love to hear your views on this!)

As ek ou Afrikaans wil gebruik, is ek ligroos.

Poverty doubles in a decade

(In case you did'nt know, government has set itself the noble goal of halving poverty by 2014. At the current rate however, with poverty doubling every 10 years, by 2014, if indeed government is successful in halving poverty, in the future, we'll be enjoying today's present levels of unacceptable poverty. Of course the government will pat itself on the back for a job well done forgetting that in real terms, the really poor people of South Africa are twice as worse off as they were before democracy. Nothing like cold, hard facts to clear through the smoke, mirrors, word and mind games which our government has become so adept at. All this reminds me of George Orwell's book, 1984. - Editor)

Severe poverty levels in South Africa have doubled in the last 10 years, the South African Institute of Race Relations (SAIRR) said on Monday.

A survey released by the SAIRR this month showed that poverty in the country increased "dramatically" between 1996 and 2005, said researcher Marius Roodt in a statement.

"Using the globally accepted measure of poverty, of people living on less than one US dollar per day, poverty has increased in South Africa, both in absolute numbers and proportionally.

(His name is Mario Olckers...or known on Bruin-ou.com as Oblonski. He's got a degree in Political Science, is a prolific writer and blogger and was once in Burma where he became a Bhuddist monk! He's back in South Africa, living in Hogsback, a super-dorpie in the Eastern Cape from where he launches the most scathing, freshest, insightful blogging commentary I've seen in ages. This blog I can relate to personally having been involved in a very high-tech startup which sadly, came crashing down for various reasons which I'll explain in due time. Read on to find out what it's like for technology start-ups in South Africa today and why the system is so heavily skewed in favour of the pale male in this industry - Editor)

Africa, according to Chris and Martin from ‘Be the Creature’ (Animal Planet), is a place where “survival is always on display.” They were off course referring to the harsh and brutal reality of the African bush and the challenges faced by animals of all shapes and sizes. Also the relative sophistication in terms of their optimal placement in a challenging ecosystem. The relationship between being either the prey or the predator and your chances of survival in the African wild is something I will use as an analogy to describe the tech startup scene in South Africa, where I live.
