HAAAAAAIII!!! Ay this weekend was the bomb.. chilled with friends, met losta new ppl and watched alot of fights... yeah fights... but to my suprise it was not the normal im "im gonna moer u!" kind of fight.. these were young women ages 18-23 (with kids already) fighting over a BLACK LABEL!!!. I was highly embarrased but this made me think.. it also made me thank god that i was not 1 of them or thier friends..The way some Coloured women disrespect themselves makes me ashamed of being a woman. So i tried to get into the mind set of these women coz u ppl know me i like news i should be a reporter.

Anyway i tried talking to them, tried to resolve the issue. It turns out that they stole gold rings from someones house and went to pawn it for BLACK LABEL!!! ON A HOLY SUNDAY.. anyhow the issue was resolved but i could see that this was not just a normal fight.. it was actually degrading to all women of the coloured  community. Iv noticed that Coloured women are not equally respcted as women of other races because they dont expect more from us. Most coloured women are said to be Gold diggers, alcoholics, party animals and the list of degrading qualities goes on.Most of us are said to be violent and arrogant to.. This is not the way we see us ,but this is the way most of South Africa see`s us. The sad part is that we believe that, thats the way we should be.Im not painting all the women in the coloured community with the same brush( just now ppl wanna come moer me.) but im speaking of the majority. in Eldos there a few to completely no positive role models for women and therefore we all fall into the same pattern. We mothering children when we still children our selves. We get involved in drugs and alcohol because thats all we know. The only way we can have a good time is if we DRINK till wee DRUNK and SMOKE till we GOOF`T.LIFE IS MORE THAN THAT.

This is a reality of the women in our communities. Life is all fun and games when u young but to be honest i wouldnt advise anyone of my coloured brothers to marry coloured women if  this is our future.. MAKING BABIES AND BOOZING.. whats even worse is that this type of lifestyle is a trend even among our school kids... COME on ladies if u can influnce one women that u know of , that leads this type of lifestyle , u will be changing a life.

LASTLY id like to state that this might not apply to most of the ppl reading this article but iid adivse u to get the word out. ITS WOMENS MONTH but is being a coloured women something we`d wanna celebrate?

I STATE THE TRUTH, NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH.. LETS HOPE WE CAN HANDLE IT!!!

CORRY (concerndCOLOUREDchick)

Feel free to comment on my blog .. if it makes u angry then my job is done.. the truth always angers us COLOUREDS... LMAO enjoy the day

OHHHHHHH.......I am so feeling this blog!

You have hit the nail on the head, and although I am a LOUD and PROUD Durbanite, we still experience the same problems and stereotypes that the national coloured community faces.

Seriously speaking, I am proud to be part of the mixed race in South Africa. We have the most fun, the best culture and know how to get down.... But at the same time, sometimes I also feel embaressed when I look at the way some of our sistaz behave. They think its cool to be drunks, druggies and prostitutes, have babies wid whom they have no clue da daddies are, and sit at home in their nighties and rollers in their hair...... Am i missing something? Or are they just MIN? I dont get it, i dont think being foul mouthed and vulgar is anthing atractive or something to be proud of. If you speak to other races, the general consensus is that coloureds are RUDE, AGRESSIVE, LOVE TO FIGHT AND BREAK BOTTLES, and are VIOLENT. Coloured women have this idea that they are better than everyone else (hey I know we are) but they sem to think that they can intimidate and scare other girls wid their 'bushie' attitude.(this particularly happens alot in Durban)

As for me, I dont wana be part of that category... I wana be educated and get a good job and show people that we can be serious too.

I agree with megs. this Blog really Hit home...i mean over a black label smilies/shocked.gif the sad truth is that if its not a black label its something else....You looked at me kak or you looked at my man or what ever. But being womans month this is something to take head of. if the mothers of our communities behave like that then we can expect much more from the youth. we all sit in awe with regards to the violence and total lack of respect in our schools...How can we teach our kids respect when we dont respect ourselves....further how do we expect respect from men and peers if we dont respect ourselves.

this brings me to think of the weekend past and Corry im sorry to jack your blog...my cuz and i were in a local florida evening spot when we came across two guys. their first words to us was "you two are pretty can we Pump you" i was like WTF....is that how men adress woman these days....im 24 but im old school. after rejecting them they turned around and called us bitches...and told us we fulla shit cos we should be thanksful that they even spoke to us...

they left me with the thought...is that the way Guys approach woman??? what makes them think its ok and that woman would respond positively to "Can i Pump you"...did he expect a yes please??? am i a tire do i need pumping i was baffled!!

the only conclusion i could come to is that Woman before us responded to these guys the way they wanted... So that leads me to my next Question...Where is your self respect as a woman whn a man disrespects you like that and you make it ok???

Where is your self respect To fight over a black label???

I sometimes worry about the word self respect, when we look at colored representation in the media if we are not germs (Mark's voice nogal) about to make people sick (Domestos) or Simba Chippie voices, then we are whoring (Look at Scandal) sleeping around (the voices in the HIV-ads)people who have no redeeming qualities. The self you are speaking of - is it a people we mean. Self respect as a collective or self respect as an individual (the individual can have all the respect for itself but none for others (the gents who asked for the "pomp" - case and point).

We cannot claim an us when so many of "us" dont really think we exist. I strongly believe that we (colored women) are no more rude, obnoxious, foul mouthed or any thing else than any other group of women. The thing is WE JUST ARE. But do you think all of us believe we exist. Most of us are still grappling with the term colored (I dont even know how to spell it!!!)

This platform is great we can teach each other about self respect and what to do when other dont respect you - my advice when some one comes out with a kak line like that...ignore them and their remarks! Carry on being dont let it affect you and disregard those comments about what we are supposed to be - avoid stereo typing people, dont become the stereo type!!!

Persverklaring
