We then went to what must be the highlight of any trip to Paris – going up the Eiffel Tower. The views are absolutely spectacular! You get to see absolutely everything from the Trocedaro to Les Invalides, which is Napoleon Bonaparte's burial ground, to the length of the river Seine. Definitely a must when you get to go to!

Now all that I’ve been speaking about occurs during the daytime. When night falls, your perception of, or should I say love for, Paris increases a hundred fold. Let's just say, it's not called the city of lights for nothing. The French capital is breathtakingly beautiful (note I'm running out of adjectives to describe this place). On our last night we took an evening cruise down the Seine – a must for the tourist and the hopeless romantic. It's enough that in the daytime the bridges and buildings look stunning with the mixture of gold, stone and marble, but all these are enhanced in the evening when they’re lit up. The Notre Dame Cathedral looks truly gothic at night; the bridges and the Arc de Triomphe all look incredible. But the winner once again is the Eiffel Tower. At night, the Tower is all lit up and it glitters every couple of minutes – wow! The saddest thing about the evening was that I never had my camera because my battery was flat! Lesson number one: Always move with second fully-charged battery when travelling. At least I had my camera phone but it just ain't the same thing, you know?

I still can't quite put my finger on it but if there is one thing for sure, Paris is a romantic city. I felt like I was on honeymoon all over again. The people are so friendly as well. Everywhere you go people greet you, in French that is. You find yourself often asking “Parlez-vous francais?” This means “Do you speak English?” and you hope they say yes!
So that's Paris, people. A place that will always have good memories and a place that I will most certainly want to visit again some day.
The following weekend we went to Edinburgh, Scotland to watch the final day of the British Open, but that I will tell you about another time. It was great seeing Tiger open up what I like to call ‘a can of whipass’ on his opponents. Then, the following Friday we were off to Rome, which I’ll fill you in on and show you pictures later.
