Well, I guess being tourists and never exercising at all, this was more so for us, as we tried to see as much of the city as possible. As a result, there was lots of walking involved. We tried to do as many of the tourist activities that we could and looking back, I think we achieved this.
Some of the notable and recommended attractions that we managed to take in were Madame Tussauds (if you’re into that sort of thing, they have almost life-like wax figures of most celebrities); Thames Circular Cruise (you get a river view of Big Ben, Houses of Parliament and other landmarks); London Eye (the view is absolutely magnificent); the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace (I thoroughly enjoyed this); Harrods (the Dodi and Di memorial) and a few others as well. I never got around to visiting the Tower of London though. I was not really keen initially, then when I found out that I had to pay I quickly converted it to rands and said “another time”. (Once you calculate the rand equivalent you will not do much in the city, so it’s best to leave the conversions and comparisons aside!)

Things you don't see on Durban's beachfront

A walk along the Thames is an absolute must and once you do this you realise that you have arrived in London. I was amazed at how many people run or jog along the Thames during the day, regardless of how bad the weather is. I guess it is the home of the London marathon after all but with so much training you would at least expect them to get a serious competitor. I am not too clued up on my running stats but when was the last time a British person ever won the London marathon. At least in South Africa we still have locals winning the Comrades marathon.

What can I say? Chicks dig me!
